Asheville Storytelling Circle

Founded in 1995, the Asheville Storytelling Circle is a nonprofit organization dedicated to excellence in the oral tradition by affirming our various cultures through storytelling, and nourishing the development of emerging and established artists. Gaston Association Promoting Storytelling (GAPS)

We are a group of regional storytellers and story listeners committed to fostering the art of storytelling in our community. Based in Lowell, North Carolina, we share stories, teach the art of storytelling, distribute information about storytelling and story listening opportunities in the area, and organize local storytelling events. We are a non-profit group, organized by Ramona Moore Big Eagle in 1997 to perpetuate the Oral Tradition of Storytelling, encourage and empower aspiring Storytellers as well as professional Storytellers and promote literacy for all through the power of Storytelling. The Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast (SACS), Laurinburg

The Storytelling Festival of Carolina is held the last weekend in April and features nationally acclaimed, award winning storytellers, workshops, children’s play place, and a Saturday evening Meet the Tellers Gala. The Bold-Faced Liars’ Showdown is held the 3rd Saturday in January. The competition attracts storytellers who have ‘whopper’ tales to share in hopes of being crowned the top Bold-Faced Liar. October Storytelling Fest is in late October, people gather to hear the best in storytelling and music at the SACS performance Center. Ladies Afternoon Teas are charming ‘ladies’ only tea and storytelling events … holidays, hats and much more to come. Children’s Summer Camps for young people interested in writing and/or telling stories will be offered. The SACS Book Shop has storytelling books, CDs, and DVDs available of your favorite storytellers as well as instructional materials. Workshops/CEU Credits will offer storytelling workshops to teachers, parents, and students. SACS hosts a Storytelling guild that meets the third Monday of each month.
